You are not Strong Enough!
What does it mean to “seek God’s Strength?” Is He going to supernaturally make us 100 times stronger physically, emotionally, or spiritually? Can I say, “God, I need to pick up this boulder, give me the strength?” I don’t think that is what Scripture means when it says to seek God’s strength. Do You?
We all like to quote the verse, 1 Corinthians 10:13, especially to others. But what does it really mean?
“No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.”
First, we learn that God is faithful. Always, forever, day in and day out, faithful. We can trust Him completely. But what is His faithfulness pertaining to in this particular verse? It is not that we won’t be tempted beyond what we can handle, but when we are, He will personally provide the way out. Not only that, according to 1 Chronicles 6:11, we will remain victorious through the trial as we seek the Lord and His strength.
“Seek the Lord and His strength; Seek His face continually.”
Here are some more verses:
“Have you not known? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength. Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; but they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.”
“Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous hand.”
The truth of the matter is, God gives us way more than we can bear, all the time. On my own I am weak, afraid, and unwilling. Only in the Lord’s strength am I able to persevere and overcome any situation. He gives me more than I can handle so I have to call on Him.
The Creator and Sustainer of our bodies desires for us to seek His strength as we maneuver through the murky waters of disease, hormonal issues, work, grief, anger, or just plain day to day survival . Only through Him is it possible to stay afloat while walking the stormy seas of life.
The awesome fact that God uses me—a hormonally, emotionally, physically, spiritually challenged woman—to accomplish His Kingdom work, is nothing less than miraculous. Each day as I “seek the Lord and his strength,” He transforms me from an anxious victim to a confident woman of Christ. There are women He could use that need less transformation, but He chose me, and through my weakness His strength is magnified. Because I am hand-picked by God, I know He will provide the strength to accomplish His work.
You, too, are hand-picked by this Holy God to do a great and mighty work for His Kingdom. In your own strength, frustration and failure will prevail. In His, success and contentment are promised. Our weakness is transformed to powerhouse strength when God is allowed to take control.
What do you need to do today? What fears and pains haunt you? I can’t promise God is going to take them away, but, He has promised to give you the strength to persevere. Seek His strength, He will never, ever fail you.
